Aviator, Spaceman, and Crash Games Explained: How They Work and What the Odds Really Are

Crash games have grown from a niche crypto-casino format to one of the most-played game types in the regulated UK market. Understanding how they work — and what you can and cannot control — is essential before playing.

How crash games work

Each round, a multiplier starts at 1× and increases continuously. Before the round begins, you place a bet and (optionally) set an auto-cashout multiplier. The multiplier rises until it "crashes" — at which point all uncashed-out bets lose. If you cash out before the crash, you win your bet × the multiplier at cashout.

The crash point is determined before the round starts using a provably fair algorithm seeded from a cryptographic hash. This means the outcome cannot be altered once a round begins.

The house edge

Aviator (Spribe) has a stated RTP of 97%, giving the house a 3% edge. Some crash variants run at 99% RTP (1% edge). The house edge is built into the crash point distribution — approximately 3% of rounds crash at or below 1×, giving the house guaranteed income from those rounds.

Provably fair verification

Most crash games allow you to verify that the crash point matches the pre-committed hash. This proves the outcome was fixed before the round and was not altered to prevent your cashout. The verification requires cryptographic knowledge to perform manually — most players trust provider audits rather than verifying individually.

Why auto-cashout strategies do not change the math

Auto cash-out at 2× (winning £10 on every winning round) sounds safer than holding for 10×. Over thousands of rounds, the expected return is mathematically identical for both strategies — 97% of total wagered (at Aviator's stated RTP). Strategy only redistributes variance; it does not change expected value.

Crash games and responsible gambling

Crash games have unusually fast round times (30–60 seconds per round), which means high bet volume and rapid bankroll changes.
